mdevents founder announces woman-owned certification

mdevents, a global meeting management company founded by Miriam Dervan, has achieved the Women’s Business Enterprise (WBE) Seal of Certification from WE Connect International.

ECN 052015_WII_mdevents_Miriam DervanThe Seal of Certification is a formal guarantee to corporations that they are purchasing goods and/or services from a women-owned business that meet universal standards for WBEs. The four criteria considered by WE Connect International when evaluating organizations for the seal are ownership; management and control; contribution of capital and expertise; and independence

In order to qualify for the certification, companies must demonstrate:

  • 51 percent ownership by one or more women
  • Day-to-day and long-term control and management of the business by one or more women
  • Contribution of capital and/or expertise by women
  • Independent operation from other non-certified businesses

Woman-owned accreditation will bring significant value to clients who do business with mdevents. Specific tax benefits and quota fulfillment can often only be achieved by working with certified woman-owned businesses.

“This “Women-Owned” certification is yet another way in which we can deliver value to our clients. Whilst I have been the sole owner since I founded the company 13 years ago, this official designation will now allow our clients the additional benefit of tax credits for participating in diversity programs” said Miriam Dervan, founder & CEO, mdevents.

The Women’s Business Enterprise National Council is the operating body that grants the WBE Seal of Certification in the U.S. through WE Connect International.

The new accreditation is the second significant milestone announced by the company in the past month. On April 9, 2015, mdevents announced further expansion of the company’s global network, with the addition of offices in Singapore and Sacramento, California, bringing its reach to seven geographies worldwide.

In the month prior, the company rebranded the organization and launched an entirely new website, as part of its new tailored market strategy that houses life sciences, corporate events and destination management under the new global mdevents Group.
