The Philadelphia Convention and Visitors Bureau (PHLCVB) has named Melissa Callum executive director of PHL Life Sciences, its life sciences business division. She succeeds Bonnie Grant, who retired after leading the division for nearly two decades.
Callum will promote Philadelphia as a destination for life sciences meetings and conventions and connect meeting organizers with the city’s medical and life sciences community. According to the bureau, those events account for more than 45 percent of its booked business annually, on average.
Before joining the PHLCVB, Callum spent more than a decade at Life Sciences Pennsylvania, most recently as vice president of strategic initiatives. Her work included developing programs, building industry partnerships, overseeing major events, and supporting business growth.
“I’m especially looking forward to working at the intersection of life sciences, business development, and hospitality to bring people together and create meaningful opportunities for the region,” Callum said.

Callum previously worked with Albrecht Events and held leadership roles with the International Live Events Association’s Greater Philadelphia Chapter, including chapter president. She holds a bachelor’s degree in communications studies and organizational studies from Bloomsburg University and completed Temple University’s Event Leadership Executive Certification Program.
The Philadelphia Convention and Visitors Bureau markets Philadelphia and the Pennsylvania Convention Center to attract conventions, meetings, sporting events, and visitors. It also leads the city’s international tourism promotion efforts. For more information, visit discoverPHL.com.
