Last month, Mella had the opportunity to participate in the 8th annual Animal Health, Nutrition & Technology Innovation Europe Forum in London. The event brought together industry leaders, experts, and innovators to discuss the latest advancements and trends in animal health and nutrition.
Their Chief of Staff, Daniella Morgan-Pascualvaca, took part in the Founders Forum, a recently added segment of this year’s conference that aimed to bring together a diverse group of CEOs and Founders. The forum provided an opportunity for these industry leaders to share their journeys and respond to audience questions. They spoke about current traction, future projections and most importantly, the power of partnerships in the startup space. Daniella shared the stage with other notable figures in the field, including Matt Dobbs, Global Chief Medical Officer of Destination Pet, Charlie Barton, Co-Founder of Virtual Recall, and Edgar Goluch, Founder and CEO of QSM Diagnostics.
Animal Health Innovation’s conference allowed Mella to showcase their latest products and services to some of the 650+ attendees and 150+ other startups from around the world who were in attendance.
Mella looks forward to continuing to work alongside other leaders in the industry to advance animal health and technology.
A Decade Experience Building Innovative Medical Devices
Mella’s founding team has over a decade experience building innovative medical devices. In 2015, they created a pulse oximeter and an infrared thermometer for babies. Growing up on a farm with a love for animals made Anya Babbitt (CEO) realize that pet parents and vets need greater access to health tracking tools.
How It All Started
The namesake of company, Anya’s rescue dog, Mella, developed a bad case of kennel cough. She first started showing subtle symptoms, but Anya couldn’t tell if they were serious enough to call the vet. At the time, she could only use her observations and judgement to make the call. Mella was lethargic, not eating, not drinking, and then the cough started, after which she almost died. “Having a thermometer would have helped rule out potential symptoms and uncertainty surrounding her condition. Mella absolutely hates going to the vet and getting her rectal temperature taken,” says Anya. She wonders why there still wasn’t a fear-free way of taking pet’s temperature. She then gathered a team and set out on a new adventure – Mella Pet Care: an ecosystem of technology products that will make monitoring pets’ health better and easier for all.
