Just named the fastest growing international meetings market at GIBTM, held in late March in Abu Dhabi, is the Middle East.
During the event, the International Congress and Convention Association (ICCA) released a report indicating more than 500 association meetings held in the Middle East between 1998 and 2002. That number grew to 905 between 2003 and 2007 and expanded again from 2008 to 2012 to 1,776 association meetings.
According to Lois Hall, exhibition manager, GIBTM, the number of meetings held in the Middle East tripled over the last decade.
“With improved facilities, more flight connections and in some cases reduced visa requirements and the Expo 2020 only six years away, the growth potential for the region’s MICE sector is exceptional,” stated Hall.
