New Aquarium Marks Completion of Suwon MICE Complex

korea_beyond_meetings_logoWith the opening of a large-scale aquarium, the Suwon MICE Complex in Korea’s Gyeonggi Province is officially complete. The new aquarium, Aqua Planet Gwanggyo, opened its doors on January 19, as the fifth aquarium under the nation’s biggest aquarium brand, Aqua Planet, following locations in the 63 Building, Ilsan, Yeosu and Jeju.

Located inside Suwon MICE Complex, Aqua Planet Gwanggyo boasts a total floor area of 6,500 m2 with 2,000 tons of aquarium area. The aquarium is comprised of nine zones, and visitors can see more than 210 different types of sea creatures, including a sand tiger shark, otters and penguins. The main attraction, Ocean in the City, is the aquarium’s largest tank where visitors can see a variety of sharks along with a two-meter black manta ray. ThKorea aquarium in_to_the_ocean_e aquarium features experience zones including the Jellyfish Lab and special performances 365 days of the year, including Aqua Music Show and Aqua Art show. Safety is a top priority at Aqua Planet Gwanggyo, with thorough sanitization procedures conducted twice a day, temperature checks prior to entering the facilities, and enforcing of social distancing guidelines for visitors.

A city representative says, “We anticipate Aqua Planet Gwanggyo will help establish the Suwon MICE Complex as a representative attraction and MICE complex of the southern Gyeonggi region. With concern over the spread of the Covid-19 virus, we will maintain strict social distancing and prevention measures for operation.”

Establishment of Suwon MICE Complex began in early 2019 with the opening of Suwon Convention Center, followed by the opening of Courtyard Marriott Suwon hotel and Galleria Gwanggyo Department Store in January and March of 2020. Aqua Planet Gwanggyo marks the fourth and final addition to the complex. Located an hour’s drive from Incheon International Airport and with a direct subway line which connects to Gangnam in 30 minutes, the Suwon MICE Complex will open up doors to new MICE experiences for delegates post-Covid-19.

Under the Korea Tourism Organization, the Korea MICE Bureau aims to establish Korea as a top meeting and incentive travel destination.
