New board member for San Diego Convention Center Corp.

The San Diego City Council appointed a new member to the San Diego Convention Center Corp.’s board of directors.

Marilyn Hannes will join the seven-member board that sets policy for the Corporation.

“We are excited to welcome such an accomplished leader in the hospitality industry to the board.” said Nico Ferraro, board chair, San Diego Convention Center Corp. “The Corporation will certainly benefit from her expertise.”

Hannes is the vice president of marketing for SeaWorld and Aquatica in San Diego.  She is responsible for sales and marketing for the San Diego parks as well as overseeing marketing effort for Pacific Rim and Mexico for SeaWorld Parks & Entertainment. She is a past chair and current regional ambassador for the California Travel Association.

“I am honored by this appointment, and I look forward to working with the board and convention center team to position San Diego for sustainable growth,” said Hannes.

Additionally, she served as chair for the International Advisory Committee of Visit California and is a current member of the Marketing Committee, Family Travel Task Force, and five-year Strategic Planning Task Force. Hannes has served as chair for the San Diego Convention and Visitors Bureau Web Interactive Task Force and is currently serving on the Marketing Committee and on the San Diego Tourism Marketing District’s Marketing Advisory Task Force. Hannes is also the current board chair for the National Council of Attractions with the U.S. Travel Association.

Hannes received the 1994 Leadership Award for General Manager Excellence from the Southern California Hospitality Sales and Marketing Association. Her other accolades include the Busch Entertainment Corporation Marketing Excellence Award in 2000, the TWIN (Tribute to Women in Industry) in 2005 and the California Diversity Council Woman of Power and Influence in 2012.
