New event venue opens in Southern California

The new 6,400-square-foot “Lagunita” waterfront pavilion at Hotel Maya – a Doubletree by Hilton – is now open and fully booked with holiday parties to year’s end.

Hotel Maya, already a leader in leisure travel and corporate business in Long Beach, reinvents the events industry in Southern California with Lagunita, an 80 feet by 80 feet event venue that sits like a majestic Mayan temple alongside Queensway Bay with stunning views of the Pacific Ocean, Long Beach skyline and Queen Mary.

Lagunita, which means ancient Mayan city, will continue to receive its final touches throughout the holidays and features a cathedral-style ceiling that will perfectly frame five glistening, oversized chandeliers and is accentuated by two, 13 feet tall, floor-to-ceiling glass walls that open to the panoramic views of the waterfront and city. Lagunita can host 600 guests for standing receptions, 400 guests with a dance floor, and seat guests up to 450 in rounds and 350 for classroom-style.

To enter Lagunita, guests pass through “Vista del Mar” a 10,000-square-feet, pre-function, outdoor area with a VIP entranceway lined with eight towering palm trees and a vibrant red carpet that opens to a permanent outdoor stage, compelling water and fire display, beautiful drought-tolerant foliage, along with custom outdoor furniture, rock-faced fire pit, alfresco bar and open-air reception area. Vista del Mar can host 700 guests for a standing reception and up to 350 guests in rounds.

Together Lagunita and Vista del Mar can host more than 1,000 guests for standing receptions. Hotel Maya’s new event venues cost more than $1.4 million and redefine expectations for meetings and events in Long Beach that focus on corporate parties and events, conferences, galas, weddings, welcome receptions, new product launches, sales rallies, exhibits, and dinners, among many other functions.

“This certainly is a game-changer for Long Beach and its meetings and events business,” said Kristi Allen, general manager, Hotel Maya – a Doubletree by Hilton. “Lagunita and Vista del Mar are perfectly designed to provide a water’s edge, indoor-outdoor experience that can’t be found anywhere else in the city – or region for that matter.”

“The opening of the Lagunita waterfront pavilion further establishes Long Beach in the forefront of the events business in Southern California. With Lagunita literally at the water’s edge, Hotel Maya continues its trendsetting ways in hospitality while developing the Long Beach waterfront as a meetings and events destination,” stated Steve Goodling, president and CEO, Long Beach Convention & Visitors Bureau.
Los Angeles-based Choura Events designed and constructed Lagunita. Choura Events is an event agency specializing in high-end tenting, party rentals and full-service event experiences.

“This was a great opportunity to showcase what can be done with the right location and business vision that Hotel Maya brought to the project,” said Ryan Choura, president, Choura Events. “Our goal is to exceed expectations with every job and Lagunita certainly delivers.”

In addition to the new Lagunita waterside pavilion and Vista del Mar reception area, Hotel Maya offers 15 distinct meetings and events space with more than 30,000-square-feet of flexible indoor-outdoor area.

Hotel Maya also celebrates weddings and intimate affairs at the water’s edge featuring three diverse outdoor spaces including Jardin with gazebo, tropical waterfall, lush foliage and palm tress, romantic seaside fire pit and beautiful views; Esplanade outdoor lounge area with a seaside fire pit topped by a 14 feet tall, 42-foot diameter umbrella; and Playa at the Maya, the 6,500-square-foot seaside beach featuring 285 tons of real sand, two 4 feet diameter fire pits, colorful umbrellas, comfortable chaise lounges and a cozy day bed.

Hotel Maya’s signature restaurant Fuego is a modern, Latin infused dining and lounge experience in a unique indoor-outdoor setting at the water’s edge. Famous for its handcrafted margaritas, Fuego also boasts one of the largest tequila selections in the region.
