Oregon Convention Center achieves major green milestone

The Oregon Convention Center (OCC) has achieved Level Four certification for the APEX/ASTM Standard pertaining to the evaluation and selection of venues for environmentally sustainable meetings, the top mark available.

Still a relatively new industry standard, APEX/ASTM were guidelines sought after by the Green Meetings Industry Council and a cadre of volunteers to get everyone on the same page when it came to hosting events. Administered by the Convention Industry Council, the standards guide planners and suppliers in producing greener events. OCC already has a LEED Platinum certification.

“We are proud and excited to be the first convention center to attain Level Four of the ASTM Venue certification,” said Scott Cruickshank, executive director, OCC. “Certification to the industry’s global standard at its highest level is further evidence of OCC’s ongoing commitment to sustainability.”

iCompli, a division of BPA Worldwide, a nonprofit international auditing organization, performed the independent third-party evaluation. The center offers two ballrooms, 50 meeting rooms and 255,000-square-feet of contiguous exhibit space.
