Owensboro Convention Center honored with several industry awards

Global Spectrum, the management company of the Owensboro Convention Center, announced that ConventionSouth magazine awarded the convention center with several industry awards. The company will be featured in the publication’s December 2013 awards issue.
The Owensboro Convention Center was awarded with ConventionSouth’s “Top New or Renovated Meeting Site for 2014,” “Editor’s Hot Pick” and “Rising Destination for Meetings” awards.

“Winning these awards is a testament to our Global Spectrum team and all the hard work that goes into booking the facility and building name awareness,” said Dean Dennis, general manager, Owensboro Convention Center.

The “Top New or Renovated Meeting Site for 2014” award places the Owensboro Convention Center among an elite list of 50 meeting facilities located across the South.

“ConventionSouth readers are constantly seeking information on the newest and like-new meeting sites in the South in order to offer their attendees the most modern facilities available, and this is why we are honored to bestow Owensboro Convention Center with a ‘Top New or Renovated Meeting Site Award,’” said Marlane Bundock, associate publisher, ConventionSouth.

ConventionSouth will be announcing their 2014 list of the Rising Destinations for Meetings in the December issue. Five destinations were selected to be on the list, including Owensboro, Ky.; Fairfax County, Va.; Nashville, Tenn.; Pigeon Forge, Tenn.; and Spartanburg, S.C.

Selected by ConventionSouth’s editorial team, each of the five places was selected based on research of hundreds of destinations across 16 states, as well as their increased and enhanced offerings as a travel destination for groups, meetings and events.

“Meeting Planners and event organizers from across the country look for new and exciting destinations in the South to hold their meetings and events, and ConventionSouth’s 2014 list of the ‘Rising Destinations For Meetings’ provides them with insight on the South’s most buzz-worthy,” said Bundock. “All destinations that made the list are enhancing their traveler experience with projects that specifically increase the level of appeal for groups and meeting planners. Owensboro has especially become a destination to watch within the meetings industry due to such assets as the beautiful new Owensboro Convention Center and new hotel options opening nearby.”

In addition to the awards mentioned above, ConventionSouth recently named Owensboro one of the “Top Cities for Music and Meetings in the South for 2014” in their October issue. This inaugural list was comprised by ConventionSouth’s editorial team in order to showcase to meeting planners some of the best cities in the South to hold their events—all while experiencing a vibrant music scene. A total of 20 cities from 15 states were selected.

In August, ConventionSouth chose the Owensboro Convention Center for one of its 101 Largest Expo Halls in the South, where it ranked at No. 75.

“We are honored to have received all of these awards from such a superb publication,” said Laura Alexander, sales and marketing director, Owensboro Convention Center. “We are not even open yet but have already started to receive numerous awards and accolades.”
