Owensboro Convention Center to promote locally sourced foods

In cooperation with the Kentucky Department of Agriculture, Global Spectrum, operators of the Owensboro Convention Center, are partnering with Kentucky Proud to feature locally sourced food items in menus.

The Kentucky Proud label stands for foods, nursery items, crafts, agritourism sites, farmers’ markets, state parks and many other products and destinations with roots in Kentucky soil. Kentucky Proud foods are raised, grown or processed in Kentucky by Kentuckians.

“We are fortunate to be in the heart of Kentucky’s agriculture community and want our community’s new convention center to reflect that heritage in the food we present,” said Dean Dennis, Global Spectrum’s general manager of the Owensboro Convention Center. “Our culinary team, led by Executive Chef Kyle Kellogg, is proud to highlight the great products we enjoy every day which are made right here in Owensboro and in the Commonwealth of Kentucky.”

The partnership with Kentucky’s Agriculture community is important for the Owensboro Convention Center, which is hosting a variety of agriculture-related conventions and meetings in 2014 with more to come the following year. The Kentucky Cattlemen’s Association Convention is scheduled for Jan. 15-17, 2015, and the Ag Expo is scheduled for Jan. 28, 2015.

“We try to use local and Kentucky Proud products where we can to enhance the experience of our guests and clients,” said Executive Chef Kyle Kellogg. “We put a lot of energy and thought into incorporating locally sourced products into our offerings to keep our community thriving.”

The goal of the menu and the program is to be known as a convention center that features great food that highlights the products of Kentucky.
