Panama to see new convention center in 2015

Due to significant growth in its meetings and conventions business, Panama City announced a 2015 opening for its newest convention center.

Budgeted at around $193 million with more than 570,000-square-feet, the new space will include a banquet hall, exhibit hall, conference facilities, a grand plaza, outdoor amphitheater and a 1,500-seat performance theater along the banks of the Panama Canal.

Up until now, the Atlapa Convention Center has been the venue of choice for the biggest congresses and conventions that have taken place in Panama. The new and improved facility will hole up to 20,000 people, several times that of the Atlapa.

Panama is trying to market its strategic geographical location and image as a business destination, consolidating as the main convention center in Latin America.
