Philadelphia mayor honored for contributions to conventions industry

On May 12, the Greater Philadelphia Life Sciences Congress (PHLLife), a division of the Philadelphia Convention and Visitors Bureau (PHLCVB), celebrated the best of Greater Philadelphia’s life sciences and hospitality industries. It honored Philadelphia Mayor Michael A. Nutter with PHLLife’s ‘The Ultimate Solution’ award.

Given annually by PHLLife to an individual or organization who has raised Philadelphia’s profile as a life sciences convention and meetings destination, the award was bestowed on Mayor Nutter for his meetings and convention industry and STEM education advocacy.

Sponsored by Comcast, The Ultimate Solution award reception also featured remarks from David Cohen, Comcast senior executive vice president, and Marc Siry, Comcast vice president strategic development, who highlighted the company’s digital health initiatives, which are helping to shape Philadelphia as a hub for innovation.

Past Ultimate Solution award recipients include Dr. Russel Kaufman, former president of the Wistar Institute and former chair of PHLLife; Fritz Bittenbender, formerly with Cephalon and now senior vice president of the Biotechnology Industry Organization; and Joan Randolph, RN, for her achievements as chairperson of the PHLife Nursing Leadership Committee.
