PHLCVB supports MPI’s healthcare meetings course

Philadelphia Convention & Visitors Bureau (PHLCVB) announced its commitment to support Meeting Professionals International (MPI) and its Healthcare Meeting Compliance Certificate (HMCC) course, signing on as the title sponsor of the HMCC program for one year.

The program, which is accredited through Saint Louis University, teaches participants critical information on compliance regulations, laws and techniques for managing healthcare meetings. The partnership, a first between a destination and an MPI-managed certificate program, kicks off at MPI’s World Education Congress (WEC) on Aug.1 in San Francisco. Education continues to be a core focus for MPI, and this program offers both meeting planners and suppliers professional recognition of expertise in a highly regulated field.

“We are thrilled to partner with MPI on bringing this certificate program to meeting professionals across the globe. As a destination, investing in education for our meeting planning community is important to us, as it enables planners to come to the table with a nuanced understanding of the healthcare compliance landscape and their needs from a CVB and a facility perspective,” said Julie Coker Graham, executive vice president, PHLCVB. “The partnership also gives us great visibility as a city with a robust medical community, a vast array of institutions and attractions that help planners achieve the requirements for compliant meetings, and as one of the only CVBs with a division focused on life science business development.”

MPI provides HMCC sessions during industry conferences, at Saint Louis University and via private groups for individual companies and organizations. The four-hour course is designed for those who need a broader understanding of a full range of healthcare regulatory topics. From the interaction between pharmaceutical manufacturers, physicians and medical meetings planners, to reporting transparency, the program covers a broad range of regulatory topics. Participants receive a certificate along with the HMCC Seal of Endorsement upon completion, which is valid for two years and requires a refresher to maintain.

“MPI is strongly committed to providing the best professional development offerings to our members and the broader meeting and event community. Our HMCC programs provide an excellent foundation for the growing healthcare meeting sector, and we look forward to delivering more courses over the next 12 months thanks to support from the Philadelphia Convention & Visitors Bureau,” said Paul Van Deventer, president and CEO, MPI.

The PHLCVB and MPI will collaborate on promoting the benefits of the HMCC program throughout the upcoming year, beginning with WEC 2015 where the first sponsored course takes place as a pre-conference session and where attendees will hear from both organizations.
