RSCVA appoints new president/CEO

Chris BaumThe Reno-Sparks Convention & Visitors Authority (RSCVA) Board of Directors have appointed a new president/CEO, who will report directly to the RSCVA Board of Directors.

Chris Baum, the organization’s new president/CEO, will plan, coordinate, direct, and be responsible for all activities associated with the operation of the RSCVA and its facilities.

Baum is currently the senior vice president of sales and marketing at the Detroit Metro Convention & Visitors Bureau, a position he’s held since 2006. In his capacity as senior vice president, Baum supported his sales team on familiarization trips, site inspections and tradeshows, and personally developed branding strategies, slogans and advertising campaigns, which are currently showing great success in the promotion of Detroit as a regional tourism and national convention market. Baum is also personally responsible for the bureau’s Film Detroit division, which promotes the area for use in feature films and television production.

“I couldn’t be more excited,” said Baum. “I’m thankful to the board for this opportunity, and I’m eager to start promoting the countless attributes of Reno Tahoe. My family and I are already in love with the area.”

In today’s interview before the Board of Directors, Baum spoke about specific campaigns and strategies, which he feels can be translated to fit the needs of Reno Tahoe. Citing his shared work experience as a salesman and a marketing executive, Baum indicated that his role will be hands-on, not only with RSCVA employees, but with clients as well. He is expected to start December 31, 2011.

“The Board is extremely pleased with today’s vote,” said Dwight Dortch, chairman of the RSCVA Board of Directors. “Chris is an exceptional communicator, and has a 35-year record of success in the primary disciplines affecting this organization. His experience and vision will be beneficial to this destination for years to come.”

Baum is married with two school-aged children and a son who is a senior in college. He says the great variety of outdoor activities in Reno/Tahoe has contributed to his family’s excitement for relocating.
