San Diego Tourism Authority targets planners in new campaign

San Diego Tourism Authority (SDTA) has a fresh new message to encourage meeting planners and groups to select San Diego for their meetings and conventions.

This month, SDTA launched a new meetings-focused advertising campaign, “Forecast: Success.” The campaign broadens San Diego’s meetings product and appeal by promoting unique and undiscovered locations for groups to convene outside of the city’s urban core.

Inspired by San Diego’s year-round nearly perfect weather, optimistic vibe and abundance of unique meetings spaces, the campaign positions San Diego as the ideal destination where a successful meeting is always in the forecast. Mission Valley, Mission Bay and La Jolla’s University Town Center are spotlighted as important sub-regions offering distinctive and original meeting services.

“San Diego’s upbeat vibe and inspiring can-do attitude, along with unique venues, set the scene for effective meetings,” said Margie Sitton, senior vice president of sales, SDTA “Many are already familiar with San Diego’s incredible weather and stunning Southern California setting, but there is so much more this city has to offer. We want meeting planners and their attendees to discover our extraordinary regions and hidden gems.”

“Forecast: Success” highlights the unique qualities of three San Diego sub-regions:

  • “Mission Valley: Positively in the Middle of it All” offers a central location and is home to San Diego’s second-largest convention center.
  • “Mission Bay: Beach Vibes and Bright Ideas” offers a relaxed So-Cal experience with access to a diverse array of water activities.
  • “University Town Center: The Hub of Innovation” is home to many world-renowned innovators in the high-tech, biotech and telecom industries, which create an atmosphere of invention and energy.

Emphasizing San Diego’s diverse assets, the campaign comprises a series of print and digital advertisements targeting the meetings market and key business leaders nationwide that play off noteworthy meeting products. The campaign ads are currently scheduled to run through 2015 in a variety of meetings and convention trade publications. Ads will also run in publications targeting key business influencers and niche market segments.

The advertising campaign’s concept and creative were produced by the SDTA’s award-winning advertising agency, MeringCarson, in San Diego.
