Latin America’s Sao Paulo Opens New Facility

sao paulo

Sao Paulo is poised to ramp up its exhibition and event business with the opening of Sao Paulo Expo, a $123 million project that has created the largest exhibition center in Latin America. According to the Sao Paulo Convention and Visitors Bureau, the venue’s existing 430,000-square-foot pavilion has been remodeled, and to it was added another 538,000 square feet of exhibition space plus a 4,500-car parking facility and 108,000 square feet of general-purpose convention facilities.

GL events, a French management company, acquired a 30-year contract for the venue in 2013 and is rolling out the improvements as part of a long-range plan to modernize and expand the center. A hotel is in the works, which officials say will complement the more than 7,500 rooms already in the vicinity of the facility. Shops, restaurants, and other visitor amenities are also planned as part of a project that promises to expand Sao Paulo Expo by 150 percent by the time it is finished.

Several groups have already contracted to use the space in 2016, including Comic-Con, Brazil Game Show, Sao Paulo International Motor Show, and the Sao Paulo Boat Show.
