To reflect development of the venue over time, the Scottish Exhibition & Conference Centre (at right) facility in Glasgow, Scotland, has been renamed the Scottish Event Campus, officials announced. Chief executive Peter Duthie said the rebrand was necessary for the facility to accurately convey the scope of its capabilities, which are far different than when it first opened 30 years ago.
“The decision and announcement comes at a time when the company has seen changes in the nature of the business it now operates. The name Scottish Event Campus better describes the site, is more representative of what we do, and reflects a vision for the future. For clarity, our three buildings will be known as The SSE Hydro, SEC Armadillo and the original building, SEC Centre,” said Duthie.
The facility hosted the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games and more recently Ignition Festival of Motoring, and it has become a major venue for live music performances, officials say. The rebrand is intended to embrace the campus’ full capabilities as well as to clear confusion, as facility leaders discovered that many in the public did not realize all of the various buildings were part of the same overall operation. SEC played host to more than half a million visitors last year.
