Shane Komine Is Hyatt Director of Food & Beverage

Hyatt Regency Maui Resort and Spa, located on 40 tropically landscaped oceanfront acres along a three-mile stretch of the famed Kaanapali Beach, is pleased to announce the appointment of Shane Komine as director of food & beverage for the resort, which spans 10 restaurants and lounges including Umalu, the poolside eatery, bar, and lounge offering guests an island take on American cuisine with fresh local ingredients, and views of the ocean, and award-winning Japengo which offers Asian cuisine infused with island flavors.

“Shane’s appointment as Director of Food & Beverage comes at an exciting time. We are confident he will provide valuable perspective and leadership to the team that will help to enhance the dining experience around the entire resort,” says Fred Findlen, general manager at Hyatt Regency Maui Resort and Spa.

Shane Komine brings over 12 years of leadership experience in the hospitality industry to his position at Hyatt Regency Maui. Prior to joining the resort, he worked at The Grand Wailea Resort for seven years where he held several positions. Most recently he was the acting Director of Food and Beverage. Before joining The Grand Wailea Resort in 2015, he held leadership roles at various hotels throughout the Hawaiian Islands including The Waikiki EDITION, The Modern Honolulu, and St. Regis Princeville. Before transitioning into the hospitality industry, Komine had a successful career as a Major League Baseball pitcher. His background in sports has greatly influenced his leadership style, enabling him to build high-performing and motivated teams that have improved customer satisfaction and overall service throughout the years.

In his new role, Komine has been driving efforts to revitalize Hyatt Regency Maui Resort and Spa’s longest-running show, Drums of the Pacific Luau, as it celebrates over 40 years. In partnership with Tihati Productions, this nightly luau at Hyatt Regency Maui Resort and Spa takes guests on a journey through the Pacific through authentic chants, songs and dances. Komine recently added a lei demonstration, a signature drum number and new costumes with a contemporary Hawaiian design into the show which bring elegance and education as well as high energy and excitement to welcome guests.
