Smart City Networks renews contract with LACC

Mark Haley, president, Smart City Networks, the nation’s leading communications provider for convention centers and hospitality venues, announced Oct. 16 that the Los Angeles Convention Center (LACC) extended its contract with the company for an additional four years.

The contract extension will allow Smart City to provide the necessary technology services and upgrades for the venue to attract a wide variety of large-scale tradeshows and additional events.

Anschutz Entertainment Group’s facilities division (AEG Facilities), the management company for the LACC, negotiated and approved the contract extension. AEG Facilities, which assumed management of the facility in December 2013, pursued the extension as part of its ongoing efforts to position the facility as one of the leading event venues in the nation.

“AEG remains focused on operating the Los Angeles Convention Center with a forward-thinking strategy in order to offer a premier event destination,” said Brad Gessner, senior vice president and general manager, LACC. “This continuing partnership with Smart City serves as an important opportunity to provide superior cutting-edge technologies necessary for attracting successful tradeshows and events to our facility.”

Smart City has served as the convention center’s technology provider since 1984. Under the extended contract, the company will provide a variety of services, including network cabling, high-speed Internet access, telephone services, Wi-Fi and turnkey data-networking services.

In addition, the company will also provide capital improvements and upgrades to the facility’s telecommunications infrastructure, including replacing existing equipment and creating a high density network capable of accommodating the needs of conventions, corporate meetings, trade shows and special events.
