Study supports planned Jacksonville convention center

Responding to an increase in tourism numbers, local economic developers are advancing plans for a proposed convention center in downtown Jacksonville, Fla.

Results from an economic impact study showed spending by tourists in the Jacksonville area generated $2.2 billion in revenue in 2013.

In addition, tourism employment in Duval County increased 6 percent in 2013, according to a 2007 study commissioned by county officials.

A campaign titled “Bring it home Jax!” is also underway in an attempt to lure potential convention business to Northeast Florida.

County officials believe the area’s natural attractions, including area beaches, the St. Johns River and the Timuquana Preserve, would be a draw for conventioneers and visitors alike.
