Marriott International has opened the first Courtyard by Marriott Hotel in Suwon, part of the new MICE Complex within Suwon Gwanggyo New Town.
The hotel opened Jan. 3 with a ceremony attended by Mayor Yeom Tae-young, Mayor of Suwon City; Kim Young-chul, CEO of Hanwha Hotel & Resort; Choi Kwang-ho, CEO of Hanwha E & C; and Nam Ki-duk, CEO of Marriott International Korea. The hotel is a key addition to the developing MICE Complex, currently comprised of Suwon Convention Center and Gwanggyo Lake Park.
The newly opened Courtyard Suwon, under the premium business brand, Courtyard by Marriott of the Marriott International Hotels Group, boasts a total area of 24,033 square meters, offering 288 rooms including suites and multi-functional spaces for business meetings and special events.
Amenities include Suwon Kitchen, an all-day dining featuring a selection of local and international cuisine as well as a fitness center and executive lounge featuring views of Gwanggyo Lake Park. The underground parking lot offers direct access to Suwon Convention Center.
“The opening of the hotel is the first step in transforming Suwon Convention Center into a true MICE complex,” says Mayor Tae-young. “I hope Suwon Convention Center and Marriott Hotel may collaborate to create a synergy effect.”
Further down the line, Galleria department store is set to open in February, and a large-scale aquarium is set to open in December. The luxury department store will offer a total area of 127,000 square meters with 12 above-ground and seven underground floors. With the opening of both facilities, the MICE complex will be complete.
Suwon MICE Complex is located within 10 minutes walking distance from Gwanggyo Jungang Subway Station, from which Gangnam Station can be reached in 30 minutes. Besides its easy accessibility to Seoul, Suwon MICE Complex allows easy access to nearby attractions, including Korean Folk Village and Suwon Hwaseong Fortress.
