Team San Jose reports strong FY 2013 growth

Meeting or exceeding many of its prescribed performance goals, Team San Jose (TSJ) reported strong revenue growth for the fiscal year 2012-13.

The umbrella organization for the San Jose Convention and Visitors Bureau, which operates the San Jose Convention Center, claimed this year was its “best year ever.” During this period, Team San Jose generated $23.3 million in revenue growth.

TSJ staff set specific performance goals for the fiscal year and reported that they either met or exceeded all of them. This included growing revenue $12.3 million over the original adopted budget and generating $5.3 million in gross operating profit.

Passing a customer service benchmark, staff reported a 98 percent overall customer service rating for the fiscal year.

According to Karolyn Kirchgesler, CEO, TSJ, the strong growth figures were attributed to booking short-term business and minimizing costs during a renovation project of the San Jose Convention Center.

“We’re proud of this record year, especially since the team really stepped up to the plate to ensure that we maintained and grew business while we were undergoing major improvements and expansion efforts,” said Kirchgesler. “Our staff and partners acted quickly to secure short-term business opportunities within the year and worked strategically around construction and renovation impacts.”

TSJ staff spent $130 million to renovate and expand the city’s convention center hall, which added 125,000 square feet of additional flexible ballroom and meeting room space. The renovations increased the total facility’s space to 550,000 square feet.
