Transit Air Cargo settles lawsuit for $2.8 million

transit-air-cargoTransit Air Cargo Inc., a worldwide convention, tradeshow and specialty shipping company, recently settled its lawsuit against a former salesman and the company he left to join, TransGroup Express Inc.

The lawsuit was filed in response to business that was lost by Transit after the departure of Michael Perrotta, who worked for the company for more than 15 years before joining Transgroup Express in 2010.

In the lawsuit, Transit Air Cargo alleged that Transgroup’s director of information technology obtained unauthorized access to its proprietary operational system containing customer contact information, pricing information and customer sales histories in order to unfairly compete against Transit Air Cargo.

As a result of the settlement, Transit will receive more than $1.5 million from TransGroup Express and Trans LAX. A judgment in the amount of $1.3 million will also be entered against Perrotta.

“This lawsuit was not filed because a salesman left. It was filed to protect Transit Air Cargo’s proprietary databases and trade secrets,” said a spokesperson for Transit Air Cargo. “We are very pleased and satisfied with the outcome of the case.”
