“From the return of British Airways service between Pittsburgh and London, to the launch of new visitor experiences, the growth of large-scale events and so much more, Pittsburgh and Allegheny County are gearing up for a tremendous 2022,” VisitPITTSBURGH President & CEO Jerad Bachar says. “Travel is certainly on the move, and VisitPITTSBURGH looks forward to maximizing this moment as we continue to build and strengthen the tourism economy for Allegheny County.”

According to a recent Destination Analysts American Traveler Sentiment Study, excitement to travel over the next 12 months is at the highest it has ever been in the pandemic era, with more than 93 percent of Americans planning to take at least one leisure trip in the next year.

“We are already seeing the increased return of sports, business and leisure travelers early in 2022,” Bachar notes. “Daily, our SportsPITTSBURGH, MeetPITTSBURGH and Leisure Tourism teams are out sharing and telling the Pittsburgh story to sports event planners, meeting planners and leisure travelers to bring them into our region. We will continue to tell the Pittsburgh story and emphasize that our region is a must-see destination with so much to offer visitors.”

Also scheduled for the meeting is a community conversation with County Executive Rich Fitzgerald, Mayor Ed Gainey and Allegheny County Airport Authority CEO Christina Cassotis.

Additionally, three partners will share taped messages, including:

  • Ron Ashburn, Executive Director of the Association for Iron & Steel Technology
  • Tim Keating, Co-Owner and Executive Director of GK Sports
  • Janis Burley Wilson, President and CEO, August Wilson African American Cultural Center

A complete financial overview, as well as a recap of business conducted in 2021, is available in the VisitPITTSBURGH 2021 Annual Report.
