Moving forward with plans to build a convention center hotel in Wilmington, N.C., city leaders and site developers have inked a deal.
Despite last minute objections from project opponents, the deal calls for Wilmington officials to sell city-owned land for nearly $579,000 to Harmony Hospitality, who plan to build a new 186-room Embassy Suites hotel on a site in downtown Wilmington.
Estimated to bring in $800,000 in new city revenue annually, groundbreaking is set for summer 2014 with a planned opening of Aug. 2015.
About 350 construction jobs are planned, along with just over 200 hotel-related jobs.
