The fourth IoT World Forum will take place from 18 to 20 October 2016 at the CityCube Berlin. Messe Berlin and Cisco Systems have signed an agreement to this effect. The US networking equipment supplier had previously organized the first three World Forums in Barcelona, Chicago and Dubai.

“This World Forum focuses on one of the most important and fascinating topics of our time“, said Dr. Ralf Kleinhenz, head of Guest Events and vice-president of Messe Berlin. “That is why I am particularly pleased that Cisco Systems has decided to hold its event at the CityCube in Berlin. This meeting of international experts perfectly rounds off this year’s series of corporate and IT events at Messe Berlin.”

According to the organizer, the three-day forum will examine the global impact of the Internet of Things and how it affects businesses and individuals. There will be a special focus on collaboration with regard to IoT in industry, on safety and security, new IoT service platforms, making IoT technology profitable in enterprises and on showcasing practical applications. Some 2,000 experts are expected to attend the fourth IoT World Forum in 2016.

International IT experts on the Berlin Exhibition Grounds

The series of high-profile IT events at Messe Berlin began in February with CISCO Live 2016. Both the CityCube and neighboring halls were made available to accommodate the biggest European event organized by the US networking equipment supplier. The fact that the global concern announced it will hold CISCO Live 2017 next April at Messe Berlin is clear proof that the company was satisfied with this year’s event.

The IoT World Forum in October will be followed by NetApp Insight 2016 in November, which represents a further highlight in the series of corporate and IT events. This international gathering of storage and data management experts will be taking place for the third time at Messe Berlin. NetApp Insight is the only technical conference of its kind outside the US.

Large-scale medical congresses remain an important mainstay

In addition to corporate and IT events large-scale medical congresses continue to be a mainstay of the Guest Events division at Messe Berlin. This year’s congress highlights included INTERPHARM, the leading national event for pharmacists, which in March was attended by around 3,500 delegates from Germany and abroad. It was followed by the Congress of the German Society for Surgery (DGCH), with around 5,000 participants. In May more than 6,000 delegates attended the Diabetes Congress, and in June the Medicine and Health Congress in the Capital took place, with around 8,000 participants. In October EUROSPINE, whose focus is on spinal diseases, and the German Orthopedics and Traumatology Congress (DKOU) with around 11,000 delegates will round off the series of large-scale medical events at Berlin ExpoCenter City.

Conferences and congresses – an economic factor

With a turnover of 2.31 billion euros and a growth rate of 5 per cent in 2015, the conference and congress market is a major economic factor in Berlin. According to visitBerlin, the event industry provided full-time employment for around 39,500 people in the capital, an increase of four per cent. Visitors to the events who stayed in overnight accommodation in Berlin spent an average of 234 euros per day, compared to 232 euros in 2014. The hotel industry in particular benefited from the conference and congress business.
