2012 Cancun Travel Mart a success

The Cancun Convention & Visitors Beaurau (CCVB) celebrated 25 years of the Cancun Travel Mart, held at the Cancun Convention Center on Oct. 15-17.

This year’s event hosted participants from more than 20 countries, which helped make the 2012 convention one of the most successful yet by increasing the number of business meetings by 15 percent compared to 2011. A total of 684 tourism professionals were at this year’s convention, including 308 buyers and 376 suppliers. A record-breaking 4,312 business meetings took place at Cancun Travel Mart. Several representatives of Mexican and Mexican Caribbean tourist destinations also attended the event.

“We thank our business partners and the industry at large for the success of the 25th edition of the Cancun Travel Mart,” said Jesus Almaguer, director general, CCVB. “This event has strengthened over the last 25 years, making it one of the most important industry events in Mexico and Latin America.”

Attendees to the Cancun Travel Mart included major tour operators and travel agencies from the U.S., Argentina, Brazil, Canada, Chile, Colombia, Dominican Republic, France, Guatemala, Honduras, India, Italy, Mexico, Nigeria, Paraguay, Peru, Spain, England, Russia and Venezuela. Tourism providers from Quintana Roo, the Yucatan, Puebla, Guerrero and Mexico City as well as hotel chains with properties in states throughout Mexico also attended the event.

Cancun is located in the northern part of the southeastern Mexican state of Quintana Roo. It is Mexico’s number-one tourist destination and is known for its spectacular beaches, unique beauty and breathtaking turquoise waters.

Cancun’s shoreline recently underwent a $71 million makeover that featured 1.3 billion gallons of sand to renovating the hotel zone’s seashore. The most popular tourism destination in Mexico and Latin America has added to its sun, beach and nightlife, by creating a unique five-day route that will offer visitors a chance to experience adventure and interaction with nature.
