Champion joins EPA and SmartWay TranSport partnership

Champion Exposition Services announced that Champion Shipping Services (CSS) joined the SmartWaySM Transport partnership, an innovative collaboration between U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and industry designed to significantly reduce greenhouse gases and air pollution.

Champion will contribute to the partnership’s goal to reduce 33 to 66 million metric tons of carbon dioxide and up to 200,000 tons of nitrogen oxide per year by 2012 by improving the environmental performance of our freight operations.

Carbon dioxide is the most common greenhouse gas, and nitrogen oxide is an air pollutant that contributes to smog. Joining the SmartWay Transport partnership, Champion demonstrates its strong environmental leadership and corporate responsibility.

“We are pleased to offer exhibitors, show organizers and meeting planners environmentally cleaner and more fuel efficient transportation options that reduce greenhouse gases and improve air quality,” said Blythe Hess, senior vice president, products and services at Champion Exposition Services.

As a SmartWay partner, CSS will quantify current environmental performance levels by monitoring and completing Freight Logistics Environmental and Energy Tracking (FLEET) performance models.

Partners commit to improve their environmental scores over a three-year period by continuing to partner with Smartway Transportation affiliated suppliers and organize shipment consolidations in specific regions to minimize the use of multiple trucks.

CSS offers a range of event transportation services, including ground, airfreight, caravan service, ocean transport, and more. Launched in February 2004, the SmartWay Transport partnership currently has over 2,600 Partners.

“By highlighting new technologies, facilitating dialogues across industries and ensuring that Champion is providing easy access to opportunities for all show organizers and exhibitors we aim to create a higher percentage of eco-friendly environments,” said Jenny Burr, vice president, account management at Champion Exposition Services and lead liaison of Champion’s green committee. “Champion is committed to ecological conservation and reducing its carbon footprint. As the general contractor for hundreds of shows a year, Champion has the unique opportunity to act as a partner, educator and leader in the events industry.”

In addition to SmartWay Transportation, Champion offers a variety of green solutions such as Eco-Sign, substrate board for graphics and signage, VUTEk printers producing high quality signage without laminate or glues, eco-friendly carpet made from post industrial recycled content, and onsite recycling programs.
