IAEE releases updated standards for legal agreements in the tradeshow industry

The International Association of Exhibitions and EventsTM (IAEE) announced the release of the 2011 edition of the Convention Center and Facilities Contracts/Leases, Making Sense of Your Agreements and Current Convention Wisdom. Published last in 2008, this new edition includes information on how convention centers determine the direct spending economic impact of an event, information letters of commitment/intent; and important terms, conditions and rules found in current day facility leases. Also included is expanded information on cancellation policies and information on reducing potential liability.


Originally written by attorney Mark Roysner, the 2011 edition was co-authored with Luke Puschnig, CEM, legal counsel for the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority (LVCVA). Mr. Roysner has more than 30 years of experience in the hospitality and trade show industry and is a practicing attorney specializing in the meeting and convention industry. His firm, Roysner & Associates, provides its association, trade show and corporate clients with business and legal expertise.

Lkewise, Mr. Puschnig has more than 30 years of experience in the hospitality and trade show industry. While in private practice in Las Vegas, he was a litigation trial attorney and began representing the LVCVA as in-house counsel. In 1998, Mr. Puschnig decided to forgo his trial practice and was hired full-time as legal counsel for the LVCVA. As legal counsel, he has the primary responsibility for all legal aspects of leases for the Las Vegas Convention Center and Cashman Center in Las Vegas.

“Although the book is not intended to be a substitute for expert legal advice, Luke and I wrote this book to provide exhibition and event industry professionals with a useful foundation to easily comprehend the peculiarities of convention center and event facility leases,” said Roysner.
