IAEE announces first job analysis of exhibition management

The International Association of Exhibitions and Events (IAEE) has announced the launch of the first-ever job analysis of the practice of exhibition management. The survey invitation has been sent to more than 10,000 individuals.

The IAEE job analysis will create the exhibitions and events industry’s first definition of core competencies in the exhibition management field. The job analysis is a set of procedures designed to obtain descriptive information about the tasks performed within a specific profession, and the essential knowledge and/or skills needed to competently perform those tasks.

By using a survey-based job analysis, a large sample of Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) will provide essential insight to create a solid foundation for IAEE education, the CEM Learning Program, The Art of the Show textbook, and additional learning platforms.

The IAEE Job Analysis Task Force, chaired by Jennifer Hoff, CEM, general manager of VP International, has spent more than 20 hours on the tasks of identifying job functions and the characteristics within each identified job function.

“The creation of a job analysis is a tedious, exhaustive process,” said Hoff. “But the end results will be invaluable. Members of the task force have worked tirelessly on this important project, and we encourage IAEE members, as well as anyone practicing exhibition management, to weigh in by completing this 30-minute survey.”

Those who complete the survey will be entered into a drawing for one of five $200 iTunes gift cards or a complimentary, full meeting registration to Expo! Expo! IAEE’s Annual Meeting and Exhibition, December 4-6, 2012, in Orlando, Fla. The survey will be closed in approximately four weeks and a full report provided to the IAEE board of directors at its June 2012 meeting.
