Australians Break Record at IMEX America 2018

Australia’s world-class business events offering will be on show in record numbers at the Business Events Australia booth at IMEX this year, with 33 suppliers representing an array of destinations, airlines, convention centers, accommodation, team building experiences and destination management companies, all exhibiting at the booth.

Coinciding with the highest representation by Australian industry at the event to date, the country is experiencing record levels of infrastructure and development including new venues, convention center expansions, major hotel developments and city precincts.

“Australia is at IMEX America in force this year to share first-hand our exceptional event delivery capabilities, knowledge sectors and business events products and experiences,” says Penny Lion, executive general manager events, Tourism Australia. “The current unprecedented level of infrastructure development underway in Australia means we have the business event venues, accommodation, technology and service providers that can make any event a success, from a small incentive group to one numbering in the thousands.”

The country has recently welcomed many new luxury hotels including The Sofitel Sydney Darling Harbour, located next to ICC Sydney. Brisbane’s South Bank precinct has seen the opening of The Emporium Hotel, within walking distance to the Brisbane Convention and Exhibition Center. Further north, Cairns will welcome three new properties from The Crystalbrook Collection—the first of which will open in November.

Large scale developments are also increasing the Australian offering. The AUD 200 million redevelopment of Brisbane’s Howard Smith Wharves will see the introduction of event spaces to host up to 1,200 guests while in Sydney the harbourside Barangaroo development offers more than 40 newly built restaurants, bars and event spaces for up to 5,000 guests.

In Melbourne the newly expanded Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Center has added 188,000 square feet of exhibition and adaptable event spaces—making a grand total of more than 430,000 square feet of pillar-less exhibition space.
