Prague Congress Center Earns the “Top Responsible Company” Award

Organized by Byznys Pro Společnost, in cooperation with Zátiší Catering and the PCC, the first completely sustainable event took place at the Prague Congress Center last month and saved more than 60 percent of waste, helping the Prague Congress Center to earn the “Top Responsible Company” award. The award rewards environmentally conscious companies encouraging mutual inspiration for all small and large projects. The Prague Congress Center focuses on increasing sustainable operation of the building by reducing the repercussions of events on the environment. Thankful for recent reconstructions, modern technologies annually save 11,353 m3 of water (3 Olympic pools), 9,740,945 kWh of electricity (annual consumption of 5,019 households) and 726 tonnes of CO2 per year, which would take one year for 33,456 trees to absorb.

The aesthetic, decorations and refreshments were made with the zero-waste ideawithout fancy decorationonly handmade from natural, reusable or already recycled materials. Additional event branding was displayed on the digital navigation system via LED screens which equal more than 190 in the PCC—eliminating the use of a lot of paper. The whole event was impressively yet ecologically illuminated by LED lights that not only look amazing, but also allow fluent light intensity control.

Also, catering was prepared in the same spirit. Refreshments were served in biodegradable containers using local fresh products, with one dining set available for each participant. Remaining food was offered to the PCC community fridge; all employees taste and support the zero-waste concept by appreciating the work of their colleagues. The community fridge project launched together with Zátiší Catering in Sept. 2018 successfully helps reduce the waste of food and raises awareness of sustainable development by the infographics on the fridge door. The PCC’s ecological mindset improves by waste sorting and relies on water dispensers instead of packaged water. Being located directly next to the metro station, the PCC is accessible by public transportation to reduce participants’ carbon footprint.

Award-winning companies have shown gratitude towards Earth’s beneficial offerings but also emphasized the importance of leaving something for future generations. “The opportunity to host responsible companies has been a great occasion for the PCC to show that even congresses, conferences and corporate events can be organized with respect to the environment,” says PPC’S CEO Roman Ray Straub.

The Prague Congress Center is the largest congress center in the Czech Republic and offers various rooms for small events and large congresses up to 10,000 participants in 20 halls and 50 salons. The premises are equipped with the most modern equipment and are supported by professional and experienced employees. Thanks to its excellent acoustics, the PCC is also a suitable venue for concerts. Among its other advantages are its excellent accessibility to the city centre and nearby metro access. It also features the Vyšehrad Business Centre and the four-star Holiday Inn Prague Congress Center with a capacity of 254 rooms. The PCC was awarded the EKO Gold certificate for its use of renewable energy. For more info, visit https://www.praguecc.cz/
