OWC Introduces New Tools to Enhance Media Workflows at IBC2024

Jellyfish Studio and Envoy Ultra Thunderbolt 5 SSD target improved efficiency for content creators

by Exhibit City News Staff

At this year’s IBC2024 in Amsterdam, Other World Computing (OWC) is introducing two products aimed at improving workflows for media professionals: the Jellyfish Studio and the Envoy Ultra Thunderbolt 5 SSD. These tools are designed to meet the increasing demands for faster, more reliable storage in content creation and media production.

Founded in 1988, OWC has built a reputation as a provider of high-performance technology solutions for creators and tech enthusiasts. Known for its commitment to extending the life of existing technology, OWC designs products that emphasize sustainability and long-term durability, a philosophy reflected in their new launches.

Jellyfish Studio: Improving Workflow Efficiency

The Jellyfish Studio, a shared network-attached storage solution, is specifically designed for post-production teams and small to mid-sized media companies. Its high-speed connectivity and streamlined management system allow editors and creative teams to handle large files, such as 4K and 6K media, with less downtime.

One media company used Jellyfish Studio to connect six editors via 10GbE connections, significantly reducing time spent on file management and backup. In another case, a team of 30 editors produced 560 session videos in three days, working simultaneously with 4K media on three Jellyfish Studio systems.

Chris Kooistra, OWC’s Senior Director of Marketing, said the system is helping teams manage increasingly data-heavy workflows. “The most significant benefit for media professionals will be in-field ingest and duplication workflows. With speeds over 6000MB/s, time is saved on data backups and project turnaround,” Kooistra explained.

Envoy Ultra: Faster Storage for High-Resolution Projects

OWC’s Envoy Ultra Thunderbolt 5 SSD, while not yet widely tested due to limited availability of Thunderbolt 5 computers, is designed to support demanding media projects, particularly those involving high-resolution content. The SSD offers speeds up to 6000MB/s, doubling the performance of Thunderbolt 4 devices.

“The Envoy Ultra will allow teams to handle everything from daily data transfers to pro-level creative projects, including full-res editing at 6K and even 8K, Kooistra added. This capacity is expected to meet the growing need for faster storage as media projects continue to increase in size and complexity.

Ongoing Support and Compatibility

In addition to the hardware, OWC emphasizes its ongoing customer support and compatibility with new technologies. According to Kooistra, OWC works with industry leaders such as Apple and Microsoft to ensure its products are compatible with the latest operating systems. Whether it’s a pre-sale question or post-sale support, we are there for our customers, he said. OWC also provides regular software updates and comprehensive online support documentation.

Looking Forward

While the Jellyfish Studio and Envoy Ultra Thunderbolt 5 SSD address current workflow challenges, OWC is preparing for the continued evolution of media production, with a focus on speed, reliability, and user-friendly design. As remote collaboration and higher resolution projects become more common, OWC aims to provide tools that help teams meet these new demands without sacrificing performance.
