Lucy King, senior manager, conferences and meetings services at the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE), is the 1,000th member of the ASAE Convene Green Alliance (CGA), pushing CGA to a record membership level.
CGA is a free community for association and meetings professionals dedicated to sustainability and best environmental practices in association meetings through local and national outreach and education.
“Our members care deeply about the environment, and the work they do every day affects sustainability in many ways,” King said. “So ASCE has made it a priority to make our meetings as green as possible. The Convene Green Alliance has the tools to help us do that.”
For example, ASCE is holding a conference on “Solutions to Coastal Disasters” in late June 2011 in Anchorage, Alaska, where the meetings community has a strong commitment to environmental sustainability.
Since it was founded in 2007, CGA has found a critical niche in the meetings industry and grown quickly. Association professionals have attended the many CGA Focus Forum events, where association leaders, industry partners, and outside experts from groups such as the U.S. Green Buildings Council and others have spoken about ways to make meetings and operations more environmentally sustainable.
More than 860 of the 1,000 CGA members are association professionals – CEOs, meeting professionals, and others who are committed to environmental sustainability. Other CGA members include industry partners, including representatives from CGA sponsors, which include:
