AUMA, the Association of the German Trade Fair industry, is the first national industry association to adopt the Net Zero Carbon Events measurement methodology framework as the basis of its own guideline for calculating emissions at trade fairs. Net Zero Carbon Events (NZCE) is the worldwide events industry initiative to address climate change. AUMA has been a signatory of the Net Zero Carbon Events pledge since 2021.
Since its launch at Cop 26 in Glasgow in 2021, Net Zero Carbon Events has developed a wealth of resources to support events industry organisations on their journeys to net zero carbon emissions. These include a Roadmap and advisory principles on Measuring Carbon Emissions and Offsetting as well as reports on Venue Energy; Smart Production and Waste Management; Logistics; Travel and Accommodation and Food and Food Waste.
“As a Net Zero Carbon Events pledge signatory we are pleased to be working with the Joint Meetings Industry Council (JMIC), says Silvia Bauermeister, Head of Politics, Legal and Sustainability at AUMA. “We chose to base our national guideline on the Net Zero Carbon Events measurement methodology because it is founded on established reporting standards and has been jointly developed by a wide range of stakeholders across the global events industry. Having tailored it to specific needs of the German trade fair industry, we believe that it will facilitate the comparability of emission calculations nationally and globally.”
Alexander Alles, Executive Director of JMIC, which is hosting the Net Zero Carbon Events initiative for the industry says: “We could not be happier than to have AUMA as a signatory. It is also a tremendous testimonial to the NZCE measurement framework that AUMA has adopted it as the basis of its own. We anticipate more national associations following AUMA’s lead on this in future.”
Net Zero Carbon Events is open to all organisations involved in events. Registration is free of charge, but financial contributions are crucial to developing the campaign. Please visit www.netzerocarbonevents.org/funding-opportunities
