Carpet recycling goes mainstream

Carpet recycling

Many flooring companies have carpet recycling programs in place.

With the global pressure for businesses to implement eco-friendly practices, companies in the tradeshow industry have been introducing new ways to recycle their products. With that in mind, Exhibit City News asked several major flooring companies about their recycling services.

Dave Walens, president
Brumark

Brumark launched its nationwide recycling program over two years ago and has recycled over a million square feet of carpet to date. We will pick up any truckload of carpet for free. We then transport it to our recycler who repurposes the carpet for the consumer products industry. In addition, we work with industry partners to recycle different materials such as rebond padding or various styles of carpet and vinyl.

David Stern, founder
The Inside Track

We have a very easy-to-use carpet recycling program for companies that want to avoid sending their carpet to a landfill, and it doesn’t matter who they’ve purchased their carpet from. We’ve contacted member companies of CARE (Carpet American Recovery Effort) and know their specifications for accepting used carpet in multiple US markets. When an exhibit house wants to purge their old carpet, we’ll put them directly in touch with the CARE member closest to their facility so that both parties can make the recycling arrangements. On another recycling note, our CPT flooring can also be ground into pellets and made into plastic products.

Pat Basileo, general manager,
American Harlequin

Our factories in Europe will accept old and worn-out vinyl floor so that it may be reused in the manufacturing process and be recycled.

Rich Cantrell, general manager,
Flooring Exhibits

We ship our retired carpet to a recycling facility where the nylon yarn is separated from the backing by sheering. The nylon yarn is run through a cleaning and melting process that turns it back into reusable nylon pellets. The pellets are used in manufacturing of carpets and many other products.

Flooring Exhibits now offers the new Eco-Term Carpet program in Las Vegas. Eco-Term is designed for clients that want to be as environmentally friendly as possible. We will recondition your carpet using our thorough Eco-Clean cleaning system that is earth friendly and makes your flooring 100 percent recycled.
