Christina Arnold recipient of RSMGC, Week of Sept. 2

The Randy Smith Memorial Golf Classic (RSMGC) is an annual fundraiser that donates to families in the exhibition industry who have suffered severe tragedies or medical expenses.

Christina Arnold is the wife of Cary Melton, leadman, Laser Exhibitor Service. In February 2012, Arnold was diagnosed with non-Hodgkins lymphoma. Months into treatment, Arnold’s ex-husband filed for custody of their children, ages 10, 7 and 5, due to her illness and piling medical bills. Three weeks after the court granted custody to her ex-husband, Arnold was told by her doctor that she had six months to live. But throughout her ordeal she continued to get the love and support she needed from Melton to continue her fight.

Shortly after Christmas 2012, Arnold was contacted by her doctor who suggested trying one more “experimental” remedy. There was no guarantee it with the expensive procedure, but the couple decided to give it a try. On Mar. 28, Melton’s birthday, Arnold received word that her scan results showed no sign of cancer and she was in complete remission. Overjoyed with the news, Arnold and Melton now have the opportunity to spend their life together as a family again with her children. Now comes the job of financial recovery and putting their lives together again, a challenge they face as bravely as her fight with cancer.

Helping both past and present recipients, the donations to the RSMGC are made in many ways. Participation can come from golf or tennis tournaments as well as a number of sponsorship opportunities.
