Facing public scrutiny after deciding to cut the Colorado Springs Convention and Visitors Bureau’s funding in half, the Colorado Springs City Council overturned its original decision with a 5-4 vote.
On Dec. 18, a new vote among council members ensured the CVB’s funding would be restored.
In November, the city council planned to cut the CVB’s funding from an estimated $2.7 million to $1.3 million for 2014.
Worried this decision would affect Colorado Springs’ economy, business leaders rapidly flooded the city council with emails declaring their objections.
Colorado Springs Convention and Visitors Bureau promotes visitation to the area, and it hopes to spread its mission so more people stand in support of the organization.
