Dayton Magazine has named 117 Miami Valley nonprofits to the 2022 list of Greater Dayton Nonprofit of the Year Awards. The Dayton Convention & Visitors Bureau was named as the Economic Development Nonprofit of the Year.
According to the Dayton Magazine editors, “after a tough couple of years, it’s never been more apparent that nonprofits throughout the Miami Valley work tirelessly to do good in the region. In our second annual Greater Dayton Nonprofit of the Year Awards, we wanted to honor the many nonprofit organizations that make an impact in the region. Thousands of people voted in this online competition for their favorites in 113 categories.”
“Our organization is honored to be named the Economic Development Nonprofit of the Year for 2022. The Dayton Convention & Visitors Bureau (CVB) serves the community as an economic development organization. The CVB markets and promotes ‘Destination Dayton’ to meeting planners for all types of events, as well as to leisure visitors. This work brings outside people, and their dollars, into Dayton and Montgomery County. These out-of-towners spend money at hotels, restaurants, meeting venues, area attractions, arts and cultural venues and performances, and varied retail outlets, helping ensure the economic vitality of our community.” states Powell. “Conventions, travel and tourism represent big business for our area. According to a research study released by Tourism Economics (an Oxford Economics Company) in the summer of 2022, reflecting data from 2021, direct visitor spending in Montgomery County generated $1.4billion in total economic impact, and supported 22,455 total jobs (7.2% of all jobs in Montgomery County). Each household in Montgomery County would need to be taxed an
additional $718 to replace the visitor-generated taxes received by state and local governments in 2021. As a nonprofit organization, we are extremely proud to promote and market Destination Dayton and to positively impact the economic prosperity of our community.”
The Dayton/Montgomery County Convention & Visitors Bureau, an independent, non-profit organization funded by a county-wide customer hotel/motel bed tax, serves as an economic catalyst by marketing and promoting the community as THE Ohio destination and providing services for tourism events, conventions, leisure and business travel and advocacy for destination development.
