Event Tech Live Tackles Carbon Emissions

Event Tech Live, Europe’s only free-to-attend show dedicated to event technology, has partnered with industry charity, Energy Revolution, and industry giant GES to provide the opportunity for visitors, suppliers and exhibitors to balance their travel carbon to this year’s event.

This year marks the sixth edition of the ever-popular show and promises to be bigger and better. ETL showcases the latest event technology as well as the best event practices, pulling in experts from all sectors of the industry to demonstrate their professional opinions, research and expertise. Event Tech Live will take place at The Old Truman Brewery in London from Nov. 6-7.

Traveling via carpool or public transport helps reduce carbon emissions and organizers at Event Tech Live are encouraging anyone traveling to the show to do so in a “carbon-light” way as possible.

Energy Revolution’s Travel Carbon Calculator allows users to offset the carbon emissions created when making their way to the show. All donations go directly to projects that create clean, renewable energy.

Climate change is a critical challenge we all share. Festivals and events are an integral part of our culture but sadly they can have a negative impact on our environment. In 2015, The Show Must Go On reportshowed that UK festivals are collectively responsible for about 15 kilotonnes of carbon dioxide emissions each year with audience travel alone accounting for up to 60-80 percent of that footprint.

For a festival of 10,000 people, that’s a massive 120 tonnes of carbon dioxide. These are the figures that began Energy Revolution’s mission: it’s clear that to have the biggest impact on cutting event-related carbon emissions, we have to tackle travel.

Event Tech Live co-founder Adam Parry explains the reasons behind partnering with Energy Revolution.

“Companies, events and individuals are doing more and more to help improve the state of the environment,” he says. “We wanted to do our part in helping reduce carbon emissions and balance out any that are created travelng to our show.”

Bethan Riach, communications manager at Energy Revolution, comments: “By using Energy Revolution’s carbon calculator to work out their travel emissions, audiences, crew, speakers, suppliers and production teams get a clearer picture of the environmental impacts of their travel and the benefit of finding more sustainable ways to get onsite. With the option to balance their carbon emissions with a donation to projects that create clean renewable energy, they can do something positive about the negative impacts of their journey.”

Event Tech Live has joined a long list of events that work with Energy Revolution to improve renewable energy solutions, such as 40 of the UK’s favorite festivals, artists and event suppliers. Since 2015, the charity has balanced 8.4 million travel miles, helped put solar panels on the roofs of UK schools and funded community solar power with Bristol Energy Co-op.
