Events DC names new chief people officer

Events DC, the official convention and sports authority for the District of Columbia, chose a new chief people officer.

Misty Johnson Oratokhai will focus on innovative recruitment programs and employee-engagement initiatives as well as the development of new employee evaluation tools.

O’Dell, president and CEO, Events DC. “Misty will help lead our organization to recruit, develop and empower our employees to carry out our mission of creating economic and community benefits for the residents and businesses of the District of Columbia.”

Previously, Oratokhai served as senior vice president and chief people officer at Dimensions Healthcare System, a regional not-for-profit healthcare services provider. She brings more than 12 years of human resources management experience and will lead Event DC’s human resources team to support the growth and success of employees through a focus on personal development, career progression, talent acquisition, business advice supporting leadership and organizational performance.

“I’m excited to join Events DC because of its strong focus on attracting world-class events with a dynamic and talented workforce who creates amazing event experiences for residents and visitors alike,” said Oratokhai.  “Events DC has a strong reputation in the travel and tourism industry, and I am committed to help further strengthen the organization’s performance.”

Knowledgeable in leadership, talent and organization culture and change, Oratokhai has led past initiatives including in-house recruitment programs, employee-engagement and a robust training curriculum focused on employee safety and management skills. Oratokhai also has a solid background with unions, including previous employment for Amtrak and the D.C. Office of Labor Relations and Collective Bargaining.

Oratokhai holds a J.D. from the Columbus School of Law at the Catholic University of America and a B.A. in political science from the University of the District of Columbia.
