Excel London Names Sam Gibson Chief Information Officer

Excel London has appointed Sam Gibson as chief information officer, a newly created executive role focused on the venue’s technology and connectivity strategy.

Gibson brings more than 20 years of technology leadership experience. Most recently, he held a senior role at Clarion Events. He also has experience in the property and construction sectors and has worked on digital strategy development.

The appointment comes as Excel continues a multimillion-pound investment in digital infrastructure and connectivity. As part of that effort, Gibson will help lead the venue’s next phase of technology development.

“Technology and connectivity are increasingly fundamental to the experience our customers expect and to the future of world-class events,” said Excel CEO Jeremy Rees.

Rees said Gibson’s appointment adds more focus to an area that will play a larger role in Excel’s growth. In addition, Gibson will lead the next phase of the venue’s connectivity program.

Gibson said the role comes at a time when organizers, exhibitors and visitors expect more from event technology.

“It’s a hugely exciting time to be joining Excel London,” Gibson said. “The expectations of organisers, exhibitors and visitors are evolving rapidly, and technology has a key role to play in creating outstanding event experiences.”

He added that he plans to build on the venue’s existing technology base. As a result, his focus will include making events easier to deliver while creating new opportunities for customers and the venue.
