EXHIBITOR2013 is poised to shatter records

EXHIBITOR2013, scheduled for March 17-21 at the Mandalay Bay Convention Center in Las Vegas, is already setting records for pre-show exhibit sales and registration, heralding a potentially bountiful year for the tradeshow industry.

“Our preshow attendance is up,” said John Pavek, publisher, EXHIBITOR. “We’re up 11 percent in square footage and 9 percent in companies with 72 new ones.”

Preliminary numbers for EXHIBITOR2013 are outpacing the 2012 show.

The boost in attendance and exhibits suggests the tradeshow industry is poised for a good year despite recent economic contraction in the U.S. and global economic woes in many regions. Research indicates as the economy goes, so goes tradeshow participation, and participation in EXHIBITOR2013 suggests a good year lies ahead.

“This is a strong economic indicator for our industry,” said Carol Fojtik, managing director. EXHIBITOR. “Corporate buyers are increasing their investment in their tradeshow and corporate event-marketing programs. Our exhibitors want to garner their share of that market.”

Events like EXHIBITOR2013 bring a variety of organizations and businesses together under one roof in one of the most effective marketing tools employed anywhere. An ongoing research project by CEIR entitled “The Role and Value of Face-to-Face Interaction Study Series” indicates face-to-face meetings like the thousands occurring during EXHIBITOR are the most effective tools marketers can employ.

“Exhibitions mirror the diversity of the broader economy,” said Nancy Drapeau, research director, CEIR. “These events offer exhibitors high-quality buyer audiences across a broad range of industry sectors. This is further proof that exhibitions are a powerful, face-to-face marketing medium.”

EXHIBITOR is one of the best events for expanding business opportunities. Research indicates about 98 percent of EXHIBITOR attendees make purchasing decisions, consistently placing the tradeshow among the top 10 buying shows in the U.S., according to studies conducted by Exhibit Surveys. And it is one of the best places for exhibitions professionals to enhance their skills, education and careers.

The five-day event being held at Mandalay Bay Convention Center features more than 200 sessions and workshops, including 75 sessions that are new. Some 6,000 exhibit and event managers, marketing experts and communications specialists who are responsible for their organization’s tradeshow or corporate event-marketing program are slated to attend.

The industry’s largest exhibit hall will feature nearly 300 leading suppliers of tradeshow products and service, including dozens of new ones to be featured for the first time.

“This year we have a new product showcase we are placing in an area of prominence,” said Pavek. “We have 43 new products for exhibitors’ use that will be on display in the registration area.”

The show floor occupies some 65,000 square feet of space, setting a new record for EXHIBITOR2013, and international participation continues growing. There are 41 exhibitors from 11 nations scheduled to participate, including a large exhibit from Germany featuring nearly a dozen partners and destinations. The exhibit is partly paid for with funding from Germany’s federal government. Other nations to be represented are Belgium, Canada, China, Hong Kong, India, Japan, Russia and Spain.

“International participation definitely is up, especially with the global economy making it more affordable to come to the U.S.,” said Pavek. “We’re welcoming IFES (the International Federation of Event and Exhibition Services) for the first time. They are a global organization that has been around since 1985 and has a global network of exhibitors.”

IFES was founded in 1984 with the aim of tending to the needs of international associations and companies involved in the increasingly global tradeshow industry while promoting the commercial, professional and socio-political interests of its members on an international level. Its participation speaks to the increasingly global nature of the tradeshow industry.

EXHIBITOR’s increased participation among domestic and international exhibitors and attendees affirms the study results as well as why EXHIBITOR continues to be held in Las Vegas.

“This is our 25th year in Las Vegas. It’s accessible and the number-one tradeshow destination,” said Pavek, adding the large column-free space at the Mandalay Bay Convention Center makes it an ideal venue for EXHIBITOR2013.
