The Las Vegas Hospitality Association invites you to “hear the inside scoop from LVHA scholarship recipients and what our leading hospitality schools are doing for the future of Las Vegas” as they hold a virtual luncheon on January 28 from noon-1 p.m. During the webinar, attendees will meet the 2021 LVHA Board, learn more about the LVHA scholarship offerings, and learn more about the world class hospitality programs at CSN and UNLV.
Panelists will be:
Marcus Johnson
Dean of the School of Business, Hospitality and Public Services at CSN
Dr. Johnson is responsible for the oversight of four major academic departments, including the Dept. of Accounting, Finance, and Computer Office Technology; the Dept. of Hospitality Management; the Dept. of Business; and the Dept. of Public Safety and Human Services. He provides leadership and management oversight to the school providing higher education opportunities to students at one of the largest community colleges in the U.S.
Joe Gormley
Chair of the Hospitality Management Department at CSN
Joe Gormley is a 30-year resident of Las Vegas. Prior to his 10 years of instruction and leadership at the collegiate level, Gormley owned several companies in the Las Vegas area including an Italian ice company, a multi-unit concession company and an 8,000 sq.ft. full-service restaurant, Moose’s Beach House Bar & Grill, located next to UNLV.
Stowe Shoemaker
Dean of the William F. Harrah College of Hotel Administration at UNLV
Prior to being named dean, Shoemaker served as a Lincy Professor at UNLV and the Donald Hubbs Distinguished Professor at the Conrad N. Hilton College of Hotel Administration at the University of Houston. For many years he was a member of the executive education faculty at the Cornell University School of Hotel Administration, and for a time he maintained an appointment in the Division of Diagnostic Imagery at MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston.
Attendees are invited to submit questions for the panelists when they register for the free virtual event.
This virtual event will be complimentary for members and non-members. LVHA is also running a special on 2021 membership of $100 for new members and $75 for 2021 membership renewal (must sign up before Feb. 28 for both offers).
Also, one of the goals of LVHA is to be a leader in philanthropic gifts and scholarships to the Southern Nevada Community and the tourism industry. LVHA has established scholarship programs and endowments as well as many individual scholarships honoring our industry professionals.Deadline for applying for this year’s scholarships is January 31.
