There is a lot happening in our industry. I write this column as I, like most other Americans, prepare for the Memorial Day weekend. As summer does not officially begin until June 21, we Americans like to get a jump on our seasons!
As families prepare for the school break and vacations, our industry continues its rapid transformation. The Metropolitan Pier and Exposition Authority can now move forward and implement the historical changes they say will make them competitive again (see in-depth coverage in this issue). They say shows will stop running elsewhere and everyone will have more work.
Chicago News Burnout? Even as these revolutionary workforce changes start to take effect at the nation’s largest convention center – and begin to radiate across the entire industry – it is interesting to note that more people were interested in reading about the update on the devastation that hit the Nashville market then reading more about the MPEA (by more than a 2 to 1 ratio on one of our NewsBlasts).
This edition also includes coverage of the opening of the 2010 World Expo in Shanghai. As someone that lives and breathes “The Exhibit World” I am excited at the opportunity to bring you first-hand coverage of the spectacular exhibits of this, the largest with the most countries participating, world’s fair ever staged. My 10-day odyssey begins in late June. Watch for coverage on the web as well as the July print edition.
Be sure to catch up on all the people news, our top notch team of columnists and all the national news that keeps you in the know and ahead of your competition!
