Processing and packaging machinery investments in Mexico appear to be increasing.
According to September 2013 data from the U.S. Census Bureau’s Quarterly Import/Export Statistics released by PMMI, a trade group representing supply chain companies, Mexican manufacturers are the second-largest importers of U.S. packaging and processing machinery.
The industry has experienced a 16 percent year over year increase in exports for processing equipment and a 10 percent year over year increase for packaging machinery.
Separately, American companies including Nestle, PepsiCo and Cisco Systems are planning substantial investments in Mexico, according to PMMI.
The information comes just ahead of PMMI’s EXPO PACK Mexico, which will take place Jun. 17-20 in Mexico City.
According to Enrique Guzman, director, PMMI’s Latin American office, news of the increasing amount of exports means an increased interest in companies wanting to exhibit at EXPO PACK Mexico.
“Exhibit space sales are 15 percent ahead of the same period in 2013, and the show as a whole is 90 percent sold,” said Guzman.
About 29,000 buyers are expected to attend, according to PMMI officials.
