Pragati Maidan, the new world-class convention center to be completed in 2017, is causing a lot of chatter in New Delhi. Hosting space for 8,000 people and large new exhibition areas, it is staged to be the country’s biggest convention center yet.
In April, Delhi Development Authority (DDA) cleared the change in Pragati Maidan’s land use plan from ‘district park’ to ‘international convention center’, paving the way for construction of the long-awaited modern convention center to begin construction.
“This decision is the biggest relief to expedite work,” said Rita Menon, chairman and MD, India Trade Promotion Organization (ITPO), the organization which manages Pragati Maidan. “We have prepared a master plan and a project management consultant has been appointed.”
Reports from the Times of India newspaper said the new convention facility will be built towards Ring Road to avoid crowding Mathura Road further.
