Kuala Lumpur Convention Center voted top venue in Asia

Kuala Lumpur Convention CenterThe Kuala Lumpur Convention Center, in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, has been awarded Best Convention Center in Asia in the MICE Report Awards 2012. The MICE Report Awards is organized annually by the MICE Report, a magazine for business travelers, conference organizers and meetings planners.

“Subscribers were influenced by important factors including capacity, facility and service, and based on their own experience at the various convention centers listed in the respective categories,” said Cliff James, editor, the MICE Report. “The Kuala Lumpur Convention Center received the highest number of votes in the Best Convention Center in Asia category, beating other facilities in the region for its state-of the art facilities and exceptional service.”

Subscribers of the London-based magazine sent in their votes in November 2011 for the 2012 awards program, which was held outside Europe for the first time.

“This is excellent news for the Center and indeed, will motivate us to ensure we continue to deliver on our quality commitment, to maintain, and where possible exceed, guests expectations,” said Datuk Peter Brokenshire, general manager, Kuala Lumpur Convention Center. “Such recognition also boosts our position as one of Asia’s leading convention centers, a world-class facility offering innovative products and services to meet the evolving needs of international clients.”

The center was not the only one to bring home an award. Malaysia was voted Best MICE Country in Asia for its state-of-the-art facilities and service.

“We are pleased that Malaysia has proven herself once again as a leading MICE destination in the region,” said En Zulkefli Hj Sharif, CEO, Malaysia Convention and Exhibition Bureau (MyCEB). “We shall certainly continue to work closely with our various local industry partners to further enhance the country’s status and reputation as a business tourism destination to reckon with on the global stage.”

The Kuala Lumpur Convention Center also retained its EarthCheck Bronze Benchmarked Convention Center Certification for a fifth consecutive year following the successful completion of the annual EarthCheck benchmarking assessment.

“Retaining our EarthCheck Bronze certification affirms the Center’s commitment to being an internationally recognized convention center that operates its business in a responsible and sustainable manner,” said Brokenshire. “It also reflects our support of the long-term sustainability goals of the business tourism sector in Malaysia.”

The EarthCheck certification encompasses eight areas of assessment; policy, energy, water, waste sent to landfill, community commitment, paper products, cleaning products, and pesticide product.

“The efforts and dedication demonstrated by every team member across the board are integral to our endeavor to maintain this globally-recognized and respected certification,” said Brokenshire. “The benchmark set by EarthCheck is also a strong motivator for us to continue implementing sustainability best practices in our business operations.”
