The Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority approved more than $28 million in expenditures at its April 8 board meeting, including $17 million aimed at sprucing up the Las Vegas Convention Center (LVCC).

The largest chunk, $5.6 million, is going to Henrikson Butler Nevada to replace about 30,000 chairs in the convention halls and meeting rooms. Henrikson came in lowest among five bidders for the procurement, three-year phased delivery and potential storage of the new chairs.

The chairs are high quality, lighter weight and durable, and more in line with LVCC’s improvement efforts, says Ed Finger, chief strategist officer for LVCVA. They will replace seats that show their age.

In other agenda items:

  • The board approved an agreement with Conex Exhibition Services in the amount of $345,000 to design and build a Las Vegas exhibit booth for U.S. Travel’s IPW tradeshow, June 15-19, in Chicago. Conex has been awarded $1.6 million in the last two years to build the “sustainable” booth, parts of which have been used at various tradeshows, starting with IMEX America in 2023. IPW serves as the leading international tradeshow for inbound travel to the United States and drives $5.5 billion in future travel to the country, says Fletch Brunelle, LVCVA vice president of marketing.
  • The board approved a $3.52 million change order to the LVCC renovation management contract with Hunt-Penta for the buildout of shell office space in the South Hall. The scope of work includes relocation of executive offices, eight staff offices, four cubicles, new restrooms, conference room and social media room, along with matching office furniture.
  • Arcon Global was awarded a $2.66 million contract for an epoxy overlay coating to repair the floor of LVCC’s West Hall, which opened in 2021 at a cost of roughly $1 billion. Staff identified non-structural cracking in the polished concrete floors of the West Hall lobbies. The project will provide a floor surface that’s safe and “aesthetically consistent” with the other LVCC halls.
  • Las Vegas Paving was awarded a $2.1 million contract to improve access and traffic at the West Hall ride-share and bus drive. It’s a long walk to the ride-share location, and buses must take a “circuitous route” to unload passengers. Work includes installation of new curb, gutter, electrical rerouting, sidewalk, asphalt paving, striping, removable fencing, and new lighting.
  • The South Hall escalators are nearing the end of their 15-year expected service. They’re experiencing a high failure rate and require extensive maintenance and repair, explains Randy Shingleton, vice president of facilities. The board approved $3.2 million for KONE Inc. to replace four escalators. They will ensure safe, reliable and consistent movement throughout the hall.
