Events DC, the official convention and sports authority for the District of Columbia hosted members of the Trade Show Local Union 491 of the Northeast Regional Council of Carpenters on Saturday, August 13, for a first-of-its-kind Customer Service Training program facilitated by Odie Parkins at the Walter E. Washington Convention Center in Washington, DC.
Members gathered early Saturday morning for a four-hour Customer Service Training program. The training, an encouraged session by the United Brotherhood of Carpenters, teaches Union Carpenters the value of displaying exceptional customer service while working on trade show projects. “This industry is driven by the people who use our services, which is labor,” said Odie Parkins, instructor at United Brotherhood of Carpenters.

Washington Convention Center. Additionally, members of UBC leadership and staff of the NRCC assisted with facilitating the training.
“We value having our trade show members trained in customer service and this opportunity allows them to experience top training and expertise relevant in our industry,” explained Robert Tarby, director of Trade Shows and Special Assignments of Northeast Regional Council of Carpenters.
Members participating in the training were encouraged throughout the session to share their definition of the importance of customer service. “I think customer service is defined as taking pride in what we love doing for them,” said Tyrone Minor, Carpenter of 13 years from Local 491.
